This blog is just launching.  To find out what the focus will be or to get acquainted with Glenn Palmer check out the Welcome page and the About Glenn pages.

I guess the big question has to be: is anyone going to read this thing?

When thinking about launching a new blog the most important factor is identifying a niche for the blog, i.e. a topic and target audience that is unique.  I figured a blog focussing on the baby-boom generation would be a good niche.  Turn’s out though, that there are lots of boomer blogs out there.  A few are listed on the sidebar.  Reading these blogs turned up an interesting fact.  Most of the people identifying themselves with this population are between 45 and 50.  Maybe I haven’t done enough research but I can’t find any blogs for the sixty-plus age group.  Hurray, I found my niche!  Or have I?

Marilyn suggested that maybe the reason there were no blogs is because very few people who are sixty-plus are online or don’t use their computers for anything but email.  Hard to build readership if that is the case.  I guess time will tell.

By the way, I just found out that there is a search engine designed for use by people our age.  It uses the same ask-questions-in-natural-language technology as the ask.com search engine but it changes the ranking of the search results to appeal more to older searchers.  I haven’t tried it out yet.  The address is cranky.com .  Not a very complimentary site name, but it does stick in the mind.

  • Hi,
Yay! Another geezer guy blogger! There are few of us for sure. Most guys like to write about politics, tech, or unpersonal stuff.

Good luck. As soon as I find your RSS, I'll add you to my reader.

As far as the search for "people are age?" You'll find I'm pretty militant about the fact that nothing should be design strictly on a demographic - especially Boomers!

So welcome to the fray, let's have some fun!
