No StringsImage via WikipediaHas it occurred to anyone else that the amount of money it will supposedly take to rescue the economy is very close to what the cost of the war has been so far?  The claim is that seven-hundred billion needs to be injected.  As I write this, the cost of the war has been $556,776,250,000.  Those numbers are pretty close, especially when you add the costs of boon-doggles and corruption in the war.

On the other hand, the costs of all entitlements comes to a mere thirty billion, that’s for social security, education, infra-structure.  Sorta looks like chump change, doesn’t it?

The No Strings Attached proviso is one of the sickest things about the whole duck-shuffle.  Here is the exact wording: Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency. This is very similar to the situation that has the Iraqis so outraged at present, that no American, whether soldier or contractor can be prosecuted by Iraq no matter what he does.  Doesn’t that sound like the same theme from a different section of the orchestra?

This has to be a red flag, doesn’t it?  One of the things that caused the subprime mess was that there was no responsibility or risk on the part of the lender. (In Europe this kind of resale of debt is specifically forbidden.) So the solution is to give the secretary of the treasury 800 billion without any riskor responsibility??

Please everybody, get a copy of Naomi Wolfe’s book Disaster Capitalism and give it a read.  Her thesis is that government uses disaster to ram through changes in society while people are numb with shock and saying ‘Somebody has to do something.’  Sure enough, somebody does do something and society gets more and more locked down.  The only good thing is, that they have to move fast before people wake up.  Judging by the news today, people are starting to wake up ahead of schedule, and they’re pissed!
