<< Insights  John Caspell - RIP >>

I celebrated my 61st birthday yesterday. Marilyn baked me a fresh apple pie. I made a pan of my specialty macaroni and cheese. Then we watched the new movie from M Night Shmyalan and we went to bed. Nothing to it.

My sixtieth birthday went pretty much unmarked. There was a lot of other stuff going on at that time, so even though sixty is supposed to be a big deal, it wasn’t for me. This birthday is causing a lot of reflection and I don’t really know why.

My health is good, although my knees seem to have gone on strike. Apart from having my gall-bladder removed a couple of years ago I haven’t had any medical problems. Don’t even get colds. Mostly I’m more concerned about Marilyn’s health than I am about my own.
I’m thirty-five pounds over what I consider to be my best weight but I don’t know where the extra is hiding. I can still see my toes without bending over and that’s more than I can say for a lot of people younger than me.

My hair is gray, but its still all there. Biggest problem I have in that area is remembering to get it cut. I spent too many years with it blowing in the breeze to really be concerned if it covers my ears from time to time.

So I’m doing fine, taking it all round.

I may retire soon so I can pursue other things that I’m interested in. For instance, seeing whether I can generate an income using the stuff I learned in the Thirty Day Challenge.

Have to say, I’m sorta glad I didn’t put a lot of money away for retirement. Had I had a lot of money tied up in the stock market recent events would have made me want to slit my throat. Makes me glad I spent the money on horses. I don’t have a house, but at least nobody is threatening to take my house away.

That’s about all I have to say right now. I’m at work and the phone is ringing. Happy birthday to all my friends in the blogosphere. May you all prosper and achieve whatever you are willing to work at. And I wish us all luck in the coming elections.

  • Happy Birthday, belatedly!

I hear you about the stock market - as they say, "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose." I always comfort myself with the idea that the money in my 401k was just imaginary anyway because until it's in your hands, it's only electronic anyway...

Fingers crossed for November 4th. I read the post on Going Like Sixty....thanks for sending me there.
