Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Glenn Palmer and I’m your host on this site.

As you can see, I’m male. I’ll be turning 61 in October, hence the grey hair. My home is in Maple Ridge, a small community near Vancouver.

Being a semi-oldfart has its advantages, one of which is being able to take a long view of things, because you’ve seen so many things come and go in the course of your life. Thus it is with the growth of the internet.

I used to live on the Queen Charlotte Islands and came to the lower mainland specifically to get involved in computing. This was back in the very early 1980s. At that time, the internet didn’t exist yet. Personal computers hadn’t made their appearance yet. The only machines around were the original Apple and various toy computers like the Vic 20 and the Coco. Networking was really in its infancy then, and very complicated indeed.

I started working for the computing department at Simon Fraser University in 1983, and I’m still here.
