About Glenn

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Glenn Palmer and I’m your host on this site.

As you can see, I’m male. I was born in 1947, hence the grey hair. My home is in Courtenay, a small community on Vancouver Island.

Being a semi-oldfart has its advantages, one of which is being able to take a long view of things, because you’ve seen so many things come and go in the course of your life. Thus it is with the growth of the internet.

I used to live on the Queen Charlotte Islands and came to the lower mainland specifically to get involved in computing. This was back in the very early 1980s. At that time, the internet didn’t exist yet. Personal computers hadn’t made their appearance yet. The only machines around were the original Apple and various toy computers like the Vic 20 and the Coco. Networking was really in its infancy then, and very complicated indeed.

I started working for the computing department at Simon Fraser University in 1983 and stayed until my retirement in 2009. Since then I’ve been busy putting up websites, trying to find a way of wringing a living out of the ‘interwebs’.
